What is Your Cyber 911?

“The question is NOT can you be hacked? It is, ‘are you already compromised?’”

Paul C Dwyer,
President, International Cyber Threat Task Force

When a business, an individual or a government agency has discovered it’s been the victim of cybercrime, in most circumstances, the event actually took place up to 6 or even 9 months previously.

Company directors may now be prosecuted if investigations discover that they failed to adequately secure customer information that gets stolen by hackers or cyber criminals.

“In 2013 the median number of days a hacker had compromised a network before detection was 229 days and in 67% of the cases they were notified by a third party”

It’s extremely alarming to think that companies and organisations such as Fine Gael, The Department of Finance, Sony, Super Value, TK Maxx, The GAA, Recruit Ireland, Bank of Ireland and AIB, among many others, have all been hacked.

Cybercrime and cyber threats are now more profitable than the drugs trade and countries around the world are stepping up their efforts in bringing about legislation and putting laws in place that will hold companies responsible for any breaches that may occur.

As broadband expands around the world in places such as Russia, China, and Africa, Irish businesses will find that they are under increasing attacks from hackers who are out to gather information with the hope of selling it on. Without taking the steps necessary to ensure that either their organisation’s or an individual’s network is secure, company directors may find themselves paying huge fines or possibly even imprisonment.

It’s with this in mind that we have decided to organise The National Cyber Threat Summit in association with Paul C Dwyer and The International Cyber Threat Task Force (ICTTF) on the 11th of September. Paul will be a keynote speaker at this year’s Cyber Threat Summit on September 11th in the Convention Centre, Dublin.
